The Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony has officially arrived as one of the most talked-about names in baseball, and for good reason.

This 20-year-old outfielder has become the crown jewel of the Boston Red Sox’ farm system, dazzling scouts and evaluators with his advanced approach at the plate, his raw power, and his poise far beyond his years. But if you ask Anthony, he’ll tell you he’s not listening to the noise—he’s focused on what’s next.

A Rising Star in the Red Sox System

Anthony’s meteoric rise is nothing short of remarkable for someone who was facing high-school pitching just two years ago. In September 2024, Baseball America labeled him the No. 1 MLB prospect, and Baseball Prospectus followed suit this week.

These rankings come with a fair share of pressure and lofty expectations, but Anthony doesn’t seem fazed.

“I haven’t done anything in the big leagues yet,” he said at Boston’s Rookie Development Program. “I’m just looking forward to getting in and helping this team win.”

When you consider his journey so far, his attitude is commendable. In 2023, his potential began to turn heads as scouts marveled at his plate discipline, bat speed, and exit velocity—tools that painted a picture of a future star even before the results showed up on paper.

By 2024, Anthony translated those tools into production. Across stints in Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, he slashed .291/.396/.498, launched 18 home runs, drove in 65 runs, and swiped 21 bases.

His numbers surged after his promotion to Worcester, where he posted an eye-popping .344/.463/.519 over 35 games. It’s not just talent—it’s growth at every level.

What Sets Roman Anthony Apart

What Sets Roman Anthony Apart for the Red Sox

Red Sox Senior Director of Player Development Brian Abraham sees in Anthony all the traits a franchise wants in its future stars. “The talent, the work ethic, the willingness to push himself,” Abraham said. “He represents the organization – how you’d want someone who’s willing to push himself. … We’re really excited about where he is and the progress he continues to make.”

Anthony, for his part, isn’t just coasting on his rankings or accolades. He’s heading into spring training with a clear goal: break camp with the big-league roster.

Eyes on Fenway Park

While he compared himself to former MVPs Christian Yelich and Cody Bellinger, Anthony isn’t caught up in the comparisons. “I feel ready,” he said. “I’m doing everything I can and trusting the front office – trusting they’ll make the right decision.”

Even if he starts the 2025 season in Worcester, it’s clear that Fenway Park is only a matter of time. For a Red Sox roster hungry for young talent, Roman Anthony might just be the spark Boston needs this summer. Go Sox!
