The uncertainty is finally gone. The Boston Red Sox officially removed the interim tag from Chad Tracy on Tuesday. This isn’t just a temporary fix anymore. The club signed the 41-year-old to a three-year contract that goes through the 2029 season. They also kept a club option for 2030 in the bag.
This move follows a massive swing in momentum for the team. After a rough 10-17 start under Alex Cora, Tracy took the reins in April. He led this group to a 74-55 record and a Wild Card spot. Per NESN, the team’s decision to lock him in comes after seeing him handle a very tough situation. The front office saw the results and decided to reward the leadership.
The architects of the turnaround
It is not just about the manager. The Red Sox also picked up the 2029 and 2030 options for Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow. NESN reported that Sam Kennedy stated, “Today is a great day for the Boston Red Sox organization.” It is rare to see a front office move this fast to secure their leaders. They are clearly happy with the direction of the baseball operations.
Kennedy noted that the team values how both men handled pressure. “The thing that they share most in common, at least recently, is that the Red Sox asked them to do very difficult things,” he said. That is an understatement. Taking a team from the bottom of the division to a playoff berth is a heavy lift. They did it by finding a way to win even when the odds were against them.
I love the decisiveness here. You don’t win in the American League by waiting around to see if your interim guy works. Tracy proved he could win. He didn’t just limp into the playoffs; he ignited a historic run. The team had a 27-3 (.900) stretch between early July and early August. That kind of dominance is what we expect in Boston.
The club is building something real. They brought in players like catcher Adley Rutschman and infielder Curtis Mead during the season to help. This is a bold way to run a club. It shows that the leadership trusts the talent they are bringing in. Tracy has been the steady hand needed to keep that talent focused on the goal.
The results speak for themselves. Tracy has already guided the team to a record-breaking 15-game win streak. He is now the 49th manager in the history of this franchise.
